Baseball and Softball Staff
Diana Pepin, a 1992 graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University and a former 4-year letter winner in the softball program, embarks upon her fifth full season as head coach of the most successful intercollegiate fast pitch softball program in New England history.
Pepin was named the sixth permanent head coach in the tradition-rich program’s 30-year history in the spring of 2001 and in only her second full season, returned the Warriors to post-season play when they were named to the ECAC New England Division III tournament. With Eastern as the No. 5 seed in last year’s Little East Conference Tournament, Pepin led the Warriors all the way to the championship round, knocking off the No. 1 seed in the process.
Prior to joining the softball staff as an assistant coach in the fall of 2000, the Willimantic native coached softball, basketball and soccer at the high school level. For six years through 1999, she served as head softball coach at Rockville High School, leading the Rams to conference divisional titles in each of her final three seasons and an overall record of 52-8 in that time. In the spring of 2000, she served as head softball coach at her alma mater, Windham High School.
In the summer of 2003 and 2006, Pepin spent two weeks in Australia, coaching 16 to19 year-old All-Star softball team.
Pepin was also a 4-year letter winner and three-year starter as an infielder in the softball program between 1988 and 1991, helping the Warriors to four regional championships and the 1990 NCAA Division III national championship. ECSU team which also placed third 1988, second in 1989 and 1991. She was a member of the 1990 NCAA Division III national tournament all-tournament team and served as one of four team captains as a senior in 1991.

Basketball Staff
Juan “Tiny” Cains has over 24 years experience as a Head Basketball Coach in Puerto Rico where he also served as Athletic Director for two different private schools, with his basketball teams winning (6) High School Championships, 4 of them consecutive, and sent (3) players to the national team. In addition, he won the country’s Sub-22 Semi Pro National Championship. ‘Tiny’ was also responsible for recruiting Ramon Ramos who later helped Seton Hall to the 1989 NCAA Final Four.
He has over 14 years experience as a scout for the BNA and he also served as Lead Scout for the Puerto Rico National Team as well as for the L.A. Clippers in Latin America.
With 15 years experience as a Head Instructor and Director of Basketball Camps for the Sports and Recreation Dept. in Puerto Rico, ‘Tiny’ was in charge of Certifying Junior Basketball Coaches before they could coach any team.
‘Tiny’ holds a BA Degree in Physical Education from the University of Puerto Rico and an MA Degree in Administration of Sports & Recreational Facilities from the Metropolitan University of Puerto Rico.
‘Tiny’ is currently a Professor at Manchester Community College in the Sports & Exercise Studies Department and for the last 8 years he has worked as an analyst for ESPN for the NCAA, NBA and the WNBA.
